Quick answers to the things people ask us most.
Getting started
What is Video Watch Live?
An iPhone and Apple Watch app for your Ring cameras and doorbells. It shows every camera live, plays recent motion and doorbell clips, and sends alerts you can open straight into live video, on your phone or your wrist.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone with iOS 17 or later, and Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later. The app is iPhone-only, so it isn't available for iPad. You set it up on the iPhone, and the watch signs in from there.
Where do I enter the pairing code?
Most people never need one. Tap Connect Ring Account in the app, sign in with Ring, and the app connects on its own. The pairing code is only for when you added Video Watch Live in Ring on a computer or another device. In that case, type the code into the Video Watch Live page that opened there after you added the app. If you don't have that page, tap Connect Ring Account on your iPhone instead, or get a link by email.
Do I need my iPhone nearby to use the watch?
Only once. The watch picks up its sign-in from your iPhone the first time you open the watch app. After that it streams over its own Wi-Fi or cellular connection, so it keeps working when the phone is somewhere else.
Is this app official?
Video Watch Live is an independent, third-party app. Ring doesn't build or operate it. It's listed in the Ring Appstore and connects to your cameras through Ring's developer platform.
Can I use it outside the US?
Not yet. The subscription is an add-on in the Ring Appstore, and Ring currently offers that store to US Ring accounts only. As Ring opens it in more countries, Video Watch Live will be available there too.
Pricing & billing
How much does it cost?
$1.99/month per camera, with a 7-day free trial. It's an add-on to your Ring subscription, so you pay only for the cameras you connect, on the card Ring already has. See pricing for the details.
Do I need Ring Protect?
Yes. You need an active Ring Protect plan, which is Ring's own subscription and separate from ours. It's what lets Ring share your camera feeds with a third-party app, and Ring only records the event clips you see in Activity on a Protect plan.
How do I cancel?
In your Ring account, not in the app. Each camera is its own add-on under Billing → Manage or Cancel Plan. Cancel your subscription walks through it. Deleting the app from your iPhone doesn't stop billing.
Can you give me a refund?
Refunds come from Ring. Ring takes the payment and holds the refund controls, and we have no access to either. Billing & refunds shows how to reach them. It also explains the $1 hold you may see during the trial, which isn't a charge.
Using the app
Can I talk through my doorbell?
Not in Video Watch Live. Live view includes the camera's audio, so you can listen, but there's no two-way talk. Use the Ring app when you need to speak to someone at the door.
Do alerts show on my Apple Watch?
Yes. Turn on Motion & Doorbell Alerts in the iPhone app's Settings. Your watch shows them the way it shows any iPhone notification, when the phone is locked, and View Live opens the camera right on your wrist. Motion & doorbell alerts has the details.
Can I watch recorded clips?
Yes. The Activity tab on iPhone and the Recent list on the watch show your latest motion and doorbell events, and tapping one plays its clip. Clips come from Ring, so an event Ring didn't record shows “Clip unavailable.”
Is there a watch face complication?
Yes, two. Favorite Live opens your favorite camera's live view, and Cameras opens the camera list. Both come in the circular, corner, rectangular and inline styles. They're shortcuts, so they don't show live video on the face itself.
Can I rename a camera?
Camera names come from Ring. Rename the camera in the Ring app, then pull down on the Cameras tab to refresh, and the new name shows up here.
Privacy
Can you see my video?
We don't watch it, record it or keep it. An Apple Watch can't play Ring's video format directly, so our streaming gateway converts each stream while you're watching and discards it as it goes. Nothing is stored once you stop. The privacy policy has the full detail.
Do you get my Ring password?
No. You sign in on Ring's own page, and Ring gives the app a revocable key. You can remove it any time in the Ring app under Apps, or with Disconnect Account in our Settings.
More from us
Can I see my cameras on a TV too?
Yes, with our sister app Video Wall Live. It puts every Ring camera on your TV at once, on Apple TV, Fire TV, Google TV and Roku, with the same Ring account. See videowalllive.com.
